Meet Dr. Aravindaksha
Dr. Shyam Prasad Aravindaksha earned his Bachelor of Dental Sciences and Masters in Dental Sciences in Oral and Maxillofacial surgery from India in 1996 and 2001, respectively. He attended Louisiana State University and Emory University, where he completed his Oral and Maxillofacial (OMFS) residency training in 2010. He is currently Chief Of Service – Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery at the University of Detroit Mercy School of Dentistry, and an adjunct faculty with the St. Johns Oral and Maxillofacial surgery residency program. Dr. Prasad has held multiple faculty positions for pre-doctoral and graduate Oral and Maxillofacial surgery programs internationally.
He was awarded the Sam E. Farish Emory OMFS Resident Teaching Award for the 2008-2009 school year. In May 2013, the Class of 2014 recognized him as the most outstanding Didactic Faculty Member. He has also had numerous peer-reviewed publications and served as a peer reviewer for multiple journals. He has been an invited speaker for the AAOMS national meetings and is actively involved in the AAOMS governmental affairs. He is also the primary investigator in four IRB approved clinical research programs and serves as a faculty mentor in the student research program. He is also very engaged with his community and has spearheaded various oral cancer screening camps with the dental students and oral surgery residents around the Detroit area. Dr. Prasad is a 2013 American Association of Oral and Maxillofacial surgery Foundation ITL Scholar.
